Establishment of the Basin and Range National Monument
President Obama established the Basin and Range National Monument in southeastern Nevada, withdrawing approximately 704,000 acres of federal land from mining, mineral leasing, and other disposition under public land laws. The proclamation directs the Secretary of the Interior to manage the monument through BLM and prepare a management plan within 3 years with public involvement, while preserving existing rights including livestock grazing, water rights, tribal access to sacred sites, and military training uses.
