Securing the Border
This proclamation suspends entry of noncitizens across the U.S. southern border under INA section 212(f), effective June 5, 2024, when daily encounter averages exceed 2,500, and lifts the suspension after 14 consecutive days below 1,500 daily encounters. It exempts lawful permanent residents, unaccompanied children, visa holders, those with pre-scheduled appointments, and others, while directing DHS and DOJ to implement additional asylum limitations. The action comes after Congress failed to pass bipartisan border legislation and supplemental funding requests.
